Less screen time, more imagination: why Gen Alpha needs real play
In a world where children are almost born with a screen in their hand, the need for alternatives that allow them to play again as it was once intended: freely, physically, imaginatively. At Papuchie Kids we want to consciously make room for that. Not with ready-made plastic devices, but with timeless, sustainable children's seats that move with how a child plays, grows and thinks.
One of our customers recently wrote us an email. Her four-year-old son had first used his new child seat as a garage for his cars, then transformed it into a boat. And finally, she wrote, he had turned it into a kind of thinking corner. βThis is where I sit when I want to think about things,β he said. She added that she really recognized her child at that moment, as if he had created a place for himself where he could be who he was. Without noise, without buttons, without stimuli.
And that is exactly why we started offering these children's chairs. Not furniture that you 'have to hide when visitors come' , as another mother put it, but something that remains beautiful in your interior and functions as a building block for the imagination. Whether you have a sleek living room or a playful children's room - our soft tones and simple shapes fit everywhere, without visually dominating.
The concept is simple: you don't give a child a piece of furniture, you give them a canvas. A starting point for a fort, a house, a tunnel, a boat. Or just a cozy place to read. No fixed form, no pre-filled expectations. Only possibilities.
What drives us in this is the realization that playing without a screen has become a rarity, while that is precisely what is crucial for a child's development. Spatial insight, problem-solving thinking, self-confidence β it does not grow from an app, but from doing. Building. Falling and starting over. And that in a safe way, with materials that are sturdy, ecologically responsible and washable.
We don't make mass production that ends up worn out in the basement after six months. Our products are designed to last for years. Also for the second child. Or the niece. Or just as a permanent play corner in the house, because children always return to it. It is their place.
You feel it when you bring a child's seat into your home: the atmosphere changes. There are no more toys scattered in all directions, but one central object that can be anything. And while the iPad stays aside, the most beautiful stories are created. They do not start on a screen, but between two cushions.
